PPMD needs your voice! Congress is finalizing the FY26 federal budget, and we must ensure Duchenne and Becker remain a national priority.
We are calling on all members of our community to contact their Senators and ask them to sign critical letters in support of Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy research, public health initiatives, and therapy development.
This critical letter, led by Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS) and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) in the Senate, requests vital federal funding and program direction to advance research, therapy development, and public health initiatives for Duchenne and Becker. Thanks to strong Congressional support, there has been real progress, but we cannot afford to lose momentum.
The letter asks for:
- $15 million for the Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Research Program (DMDRP) at the Department of Defense.
- $10 million for the CDC’s Muscular Dystrophy Program to enhance research, surveillance, and newborn screening initiatives.
- Continued engagement and data-sharing improvements by the NIH and FDA to speed research and therapy access.
- Timely review of newborn screening for Duchenne.
We need as many Senators as possible to sign on before the May 21st deadline!
Contact your senators today and Ask them to sign the FY26 Duchenne and Becker Appropriations Letter.
By taking just a few minutes, you can help secure the funding needed to continue lifesaving research and move closer to a future free of Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy.
